Michelin North America Inc. and the United Steelworkers have reached a tentative labor agreement that covers the company's Fort Wayne, Ind., and Tuscaloosa, Ala., plants.

Both plants manufacture passenger and light truck tires.

The parties' previous labor agreement expired on July 30.

The tentative deal, which covers 2,500 Michelin employees, is subject to their ratification.

Michelin officials say the company "is pleased to reach an agreement that is mutually beneficial."
