Toyo Tire Holdings of Americas Inc. has opened a new distribution center in Shippensburg, Pa. Shipments from the warehouse will start on April 1.

"The facility was built to support sales in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, align with midterm growth plans and improve service times for key dealers and customers in the region," say Toyo officials. (Toyo Tire Holdings of Americas Inc. is the parent company of Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. and Nitto Tire U.S.A. Inc.)

The 409,500-square-foot warehouse has the capacity to house up to 368,000 tires. Toyo officials say the facility "will enhance service and distribution across 14 Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states, allowing our other existing tire warehouses to also improve service efficiency and maintain improved stock levels.

"The Shippensburg facility is also set to receive shipments directly from Toyo’s Serbia factory from the Port of New York and New Jersey. In the latter half of the year, the facility will be converted to a Foreign Trade Zone to allow for the support of Toyo Canada winter delivery.

"Outfitted with state-of-the-art technology, the new warehouse is specifically designed to facilitate tire storage" and is Toyo's fifth production warehouse and distribution center in the continental United States.

"This warehouse represents a significant investment by Toyo, providing improved supply and faster service levels to our valued customers in the region,” says Curtis Maggard, chief supply chain officer, logistics, Toyo. “The warehouse is designed specifically for high- volume tire storage and will support Toyo’s sales forecast.”
