Pirelli & Cie SpA has acquired a 30% stake in Univrses, a company that specializes in "computer vision" and artificial intelligence.
The deal will enable Pirelli to integrate Univrses’ 3DAI technologies into its Cyber Tyre system.
The technologies permit the use of "onboard cameras and tires to collect data that provide vital feedback on road conditions," say Pirelli officials.
The companies' first project is underway in Italy. (Univrses is based in Sweden.)
"The combination of the technologies developed by Univrses and Pirelli will deliver vehicles that are safer and more performant, with potential applications in ADAS and autonomous driving systems and will also deliver timely, relevant and actionable data, seamlessly, for a range of road management use cases."
