Michelin Reports Revenue Increase
Key Highlights
- Michelin's total sales reached $21.5 billion in the first nine months of 2026, up 1% from the previous year, driven mainly by strong replacement tire sales.
- Consumer tire sales declined slightly overall, with OE sales impacted by weak global markets, but replacement sales, especially for larger tires, outperformed expectations.
- The transportation segment saw a 3.7% sales decrease, with North American OE sales improving amid a recovery in Class 8 truck orders, while South American and freight markets faced challenges.
Michelin Group posted $21.5 billion in sales during the first nine months of 2026, up 1% from the same period last year.
During the first nine months of this year, Michelin's total tire volume declined by 0.8%, mainly due to lower original equipment sales.
"Replacement proved more resilient, with Michelin-brand volume up 4% at the end of September," say Michelin officials.
Sales by segment
Michelin's consumer segment, which includes passenger and light truck tires, posted more than $11.6 billion in sales, down 1% from the same period last year.
Consumer tire OE sales "remained lower, reflecting weak global markets and an unfavorable mix of automakers and vehicle models, particularly in Europe and North America. In China, sales continued to grow in a contracting market."
Michelin's replacement consumer tire sales increased during the first nine months of 2026, spearheaded by the Michelin brand, "which over-performed in the 18-inch and larger tiress and benefited from successful new (tire) ranges."
In its transportation business, which includes TBR tires, the company achieved around $4.8 billion in sales, a 3.7% year-over-year drop, plus a volume decline of 1.5%, "mainly reflecting lower OE sales," say Michelin officials.
However, OE TBR tire sales "improved as anticipated in North America, following recovery in Class 8 truck orders and production."
Replacement TBR tire sales fell slightly due to performance in Michelin's Americas region, with North America facing lower freight demand. Sales in South America were hampered by "import flows of low-priced tires."
Michelin's specialty segment, which encompasses OTR and ag tires, generated around $3.7 billion in sales, down 0.9% year-over-year.
Mining tire sales were a bright spot, "particularly in large tire dimensions and underground mining applications."
Construction tire sales grew in the first nine months of 2026 due to data center construction, but the material handling tire segment "remained soft."
Ag tire sales "remained under pressure, particularly in agricultural equipment in North America and Europe."
In North America
Michelin North America Inc. rolled out the Michelin X Multi Energy D2 tire, which is designed for regional haul use, in September.
Earlier that month, Michelin rebranded its Camso line of tracks as Michelin Bibtrack.
In July, the company unveiled the Michelin AI Assistant to help trucking fleets access real-time insights on fuel use, vehicle downtime, driver behavior and tire maintenance needs.
In June, Michelin introduced Michelin a pre-mold retread for its Michelin X Line Grip D medium truck tire and launched the BFGoodrich Trail-Terrain T/A+ tire, a "versatile tire" designed for SUVs, light trucks and crossovers.
This past March, Michelin announced its TreadVision system, which features artificial intelligence-enabled analytics to help Michelin retreaders.
And earlier that month, Michelin rolled out the new XHA3 OTR tire, while in January, the Michelin X-Ice Snow+ made its debut.
