Continental Tire will supply its EcoContact 7 as original equipment tires for the new Volkswagen ID.

The all-electric compact SUV will come factory-fitted with Continental's summer tire in 17, 18 and 19-inch sizes, according to officials. For winter use, Volkswagen recommends Continental’s WinterContact TS 870 P. In addition, the 18-inch AllSeasonContact 2 is recommended for drivers who prefer all-season tires.

The EcoContact 7 is "designed for low rolling resistance and high mileage, supporting energy-efficient and cost-effective driving," say Continental officials. The company uses its Smart Energy Casing technology in the carcass, inner layer and sidewall "to reduce friction within the tire."

An added "Aerodimple structure on the sidewall reduces air turbulence behind the tire, lowering aerodynamic drag. The Silent Pattern tread design dampens rolling noise, particularly at city driving speeds."

The WinterContact TS 870 P offers a tread pattern with a firm grip on snow and ice, while the AllSeasonContact 2 provides "reliable traction on dry and wet surfaces as well as in wintry road conditions."

These tire lines have been approved for the new Volkswagen ID in various sizes in numerous countries.
