Black’s Tire Opens D/C in Columbia, S.C.

Black’s Tire Service Inc. is continuing to invest in its wholesale distribution arm. The dealership, which celebrated its 90th anniversary last year, has opened a new distribution center — the fifth one in its footprint. The center, which is located in Columbia, S.C., spans 60,000-square-foot square feet and carries a full range of tires, “from lawn and garden products to large OTR,” says Rick Benton, who runs the company’s wholesale division.

The facility also carries wheels, tire supplies, tire balancing machines and other pieces of shop equipment, according to Benton. “We try to have all the tools and supplies that our customers need.

“We’re opening this (center) to better serve our customers. We can get (to customer locations) faster, we can carry more inventory and we even provide pick-up service.”

Columbia, he says, is a central location for Black’s Tire, which has wholesale customers throughout the Carolinas. Bill Seale is the center’s manager. Jacob Sykes is its operations manager.

Black’s Tire also is adding onto its 265,000-square-foot distribution center at its headquarters in Whiteville, N.C., “which is our hub,” says Benton. The dealership is targeting March 2020 for completion of the 65,000-square-foot addition, which was announced last summer.

Ongoing investments in its wholesale distribution facilities “shows our commitment to the market,” he says.
