Mavis Tire Supply Is Acquiring Kauffman Tire's Retail Stores

Jan. 8, 2018

Kauffman Tire Inc. is selling its 69 retail stores in Georgia and Florida to Mavis Tire Supply Corp.

“We’ve admired Kauffman Tire for years," says David Sorbaro, the co-CEO for Mavis. "It’s a strong operator with a great reputation and complimentary offerings in a new geography for Mavis."

"We’re very excited to welcome the Kauffman Tire stores into the Mavis family and look forward to building a significant retail presence in the southeast.”

The deal gives Mavis Discount Tire 404 stores. The company will remain the fifth largest independent tire dealer in the country, trailing Les Schwab Tire Centers, the dealer at the No. 4 spot with 409 stores, on the Modern Tire Dealer 100. Kauffman held the No. 17 spot on the MTD 100.

“This is an excellent development in Kauffman Tire’s history," says Mark Kauffman, CEO of Kauffman Tire. "We’re pleased our retail stores will continue to be operated by a family-run business and feel this is a natural fit and great outcome for our employees and customers. We can now turn our attention to focus on growing our significant wholesale distribution business.”

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Kauffman, based in Atlanta, Ga., has 14 distribution centers in seven states, and a fleet of 200 vehicles that serve customers in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas and Ohio. In 2016 the company announced plans to move its headquarters to a new 25,000 square-foot space in Sandy Springs, Ga., on the north side of Atlanta.

Mavis is based in Millwood, N.Y., and with the Kauffman acquisition has stores in seven states: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Georgia and Florida.

Mavis is no stranger to big acquisition deals. In August 2015 Mavis acquired 157 stores from Somerset Tire Service. Mavis dba Mavis Discount Tire, STS Tire & Auto, Suburban Tire, Weldon Tire and Cole Muffler & Brake.
