Nitto Tire has teamed up with Fujisankei Communications to produce a documentary that spotlights Colorado Gov. Ralph Carr. The film covers the governor’s fight against the unconstitutional internment of Japanese U.S. citizens during World War II. The company says it is giving back to the communities in which it does business, including the nation's large Japanese American community.
"The Untold Story of Ralph Carr and the Japanese - Fate of 3 Japanese Americans and the Internment" tells the story of the 29th governor of Colorado and his public stand against the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. Gov. Carr welcomed Japanese Americans to relocate to Colorado when the U.S. government was forcibly removing them from the West Coast and parts of Hawaii.
Once considered a possible vice presidential running mate for 1940 GOP presidential nominee Wendell Wilkie, many believe that Carr's public pledge of support for Japanese Americans and his pleas for racial tolerance ultimately cost him his political career.
Nitto Tire also recently played a role fundraising for the Japanese American National Museum in L.A., which features exhibits covering more than 130 years of Japanese-American history.
