Michelin says the 'Great' Defender is available

April 2, 2012

"Oh, oh, yes, it's the great Defender." With respect to the Platters, who released their big hit, "The Great Pretender," 57 years ago, Michelin North America Inc. has released the Defender, it's all-season standard passenger tire.

After much hype, the tire hit the North American market on April 2, just in time for the spring driving season, according to the company. It is backed by a 90,000-mile limited tread wear warranty.

"The Defender is the best standard passenger car tire we at Michelin have ever made, delivering tremendous quality and value to our consumers," says Pete Selleck, chairman and president of Michelin North America.

"We listened to the marketplace and realized that American tire buyers are looking for a safe, fuel-efficient tire, with long tread life and excellent value for the money. The Defender tire satisfies these primary consumer needs and enhances the already strong offering of products in the Michelin portfolio.”

Michelin says the tire is designed for the American family, and fits virtually every standard passenger car and minivan on the road today. It covers 93% of the marketplace and ranges in size from 175/70R13 to a 225/55R18.

It also features a new technological breakthrough from Michelin called IntelliSipe Technology. This technology yields greater fuel-efficiency, longer tread life and increased safety from shorter stopping distances compared to previous Michelin standard tires.thanks to an interlocking mechanism that provides "superior stiffness for greater adherence or grip in the contact zone."
