Nokian Expands in Response to North American Growth

June 24, 2016

Nokian Tyres plc is opening its first distribution center in Canada, and the tire maker recently increased the capacity of its Albany, N.Y. warehouse by 150%. Nokian says it is experiencing strong year-over-year growth in both Canada and the U.S.

The 130,000 square-foot facility near Montreal, Quebec, will be the company's sixth distribution center for Nokian in North America.

The 130,000 facility, in the city of Longueuil, has the capacity to store up to 200,000 tires. The location will initially receive around 20 shipments per week with distribution set to begin in September.

“This new location will increase our capacity and efficiency in North America and shows our commitment to Quebec, one of our largest and most important markets,” says Tommi Heinonen, president of Nokian Tyres North America. “As we continue to grow the Nokian Tyre brand, it is vital that we maintain strong distribution capabilities so our products are available to our customers wherever they are located.”

This distribution center will service the local Quebec market along with customers across Canada and the United States. The facility will be managed by Xpedient Logistics, a third party logistics organization that specializes in tire warehousing and supply chain coordination across Canada and the U.S .

“Xpedient is a strong partner for us as we have experienced significant success in the past working with them,” says Heinonen. “They are a partner we can trust and an expert in this industry.”

“Expanding our distribution network, especially in Canada, is an important step as we increase operations throughout North America,” Heinonen says. “We will continue to grow our footprint and product offerings as we move forward.”
