Toyota Prius Models Will Roll on Yokohama Tires

Tires from Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. have been selected by Toyota Motor Corp. as original equipment for the new model of the automaker’s hybrid vehicle, the Prius.

Prius models in North America will roll off factory lines on BluEarth S34 tires in size P215/45R17 87V.

In Japan, Oceania and Europe, the Prius will be equipped with BluEarth E70 tires in size 215/45R17 87W. In other countries, the Aspec A349 tire will be used, in size 195/65R15 91H.

The new Prius was launched in Japan on Dec. 9, 2015, and is scheduled for successive launches in other countries.

The BluEarth E70 and BluEarth S34 feature the basic design and materials technology of Yokohama's global BluEarth tire brand, developed with the underlying concept of “environmentally, human and socially friendly”. Yokohama says the tires provide increased safety and comfort while contributing to higher fuel efficiency.

The BluEarth lineup includes tires suitable for various markets.The BluEarth E70 targeted for use as a summer tire on passenger vehicles.

Aspec A349 is a summer tire on passenger vehicles, and Yokohama says it provides superior drivability, safety and comfort.

Yokohama says it is aggressively pursuing tire development based on its advanced BluEarth tire technology, and the results are OE fitments like the Toyota Prius.
