Bridgestone pairs Ecopia with electric Leaf

Dec. 3, 2010

Bridgestone Corp. is supplying Ecopia tires to Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. for use on the new Nissan Leaf electric car.

In North America, the Leaf will be equipped with Ecopia EP422 tires in size P205/55R16 89 H. In Japan and Europe, it will be equipped with Ecopia EP150 tires in size 205/55R16 91V.

Bridgestone’s eco-friendly line of Ecopia tires has been specially developed to offer lower rolling resistance. The tire's compound was developed using NanoPro-Tech, the company's proprietary material development technology. The tire also is engineered to maintain optimal performance in all other areas, including safety.

The line includes tires for trucks and buses, vans and passenger cars.

"Going forward, Bridgestone will continue working to bolster its lineup of Ecopia tires, roll them out globally, and increase their use as original equipment," says the company.

Nissan says the Leaf is the first electric car created with the goal of mass production in mind.
