SEMA Show gets a taste of Baja fresh from M/T

Oct. 30, 2010

Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels will have two new tires available in the spring of 2011. And both will be introduced at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) Show.

The tires, along with Dick Cepek and Avon (motorcycle) brand products, will be displayed at booth No. 43201 in the South Hall, home of the Global Tire Expo -- Powered by TIA.

1. Baja Claw TTC Radial. Described by the company as "the ultimate extreme, rugged, off-road performance tire," the tire features advanced radial construction and strategically placed siping, which promote durability, long wear and improved traction on wet or icy surfaces.

“We will offer the popular 15-inch flotation sizes, and several 16- and 17-inch light truck metric sizes with increased load carrying capacity -- perfect for today’s off-road vehicles,” says Ken Warner, vice president of sales and marketing.

For enhanced puncture resistance and better handling, the Baja Claw TTC has a reinforced PowerPly three-ply sidewall and directional SideBiters.

For exceptional self cleaning ability in mud and snow, the Baja Claw’s got “mud scoops” placed along the outer tread block elements; asymmetric draft angles; and a directional, 23-degree tread pattern. The extra wide footprint and added decoupling grooves in the tread allow the tire to flex and conform to irregular surfaces.

2. Baja STZ Radial. The tire is designed to offer "excellent steering response, superior grip, and great all-weather traction," according to the company.

The tire features variable density nylon wraps over the belt package engineered for uniformity, ride comfort and handling. Serrated tie bars and shoulder scallops along with multi-angled lugs have been added to keep the tread area clean.

Siping has been added for improved traction in wet and icy conditions.

“The Baja STZ is an excellent choice for an original equipment replacement tire,” says Warner. It also will be available in light truck metric sizes with increased load ratings for trucks used in utility or sportsman applications.

Also in the booth will be drag racing tires and wheels, plus two project vehicles: the M/T Project Claw 2009 Ford F-150 and Dick Cepek X-Treme Duty 2009 Jeep Wrangler JK. Another vehicle, the M/T Project TTC 2011 Ford F-150 Crew Cab FX4, will be displayed at the Ford Motor Co. booth (No. 22200).
