Yesterday, Aug. 9, the RMA released its shipment projections for the rest of 2011. (For a full report, see Tire shipments will increase 8% this year.)

Next year, original equipment passenger tire shipments are expected to increase by an additional three million units while replacement passenger tire shipments will grow by two million units.

In 2011, the RMA expects OE light truck shipments to increase by nearly 100,000 units.OE medium/wide-base/heavy on-highway commercial truck tire shipments will increase 800,000 units, while replacement shipments in the same category are expected to increase by approximately 600,000 units.

The only category that is expected to stay stagnant is replacement light truck tires. "No further changes to this level are anticiapted in 2011, primarily in line with future changes to the housing industry."
