Bridgestone tires earn SmartWay certification

Feb. 26, 2010

Two Bridgestone medium truck tires, the R260F and the R250F, have earned SmartWay certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The tires have been engineered "to promote long tread life and low cost-per-mile in high-scrub environments, including pickup and delivery, urban and regional hauling," according to Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations LLC (BATO) officials.

"This is a tremendous benefit for our customers participating in SmartWay," says Chris Hoffman, manager, TBR & Retread Product Marketing, Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions.

"Until now, most tires approved for SmartWay-certified vehicles were long-distance radials, which are not built for the high-scrub environments encountered by beverage hauling, package and parcel delivery, grocery, food service and other pickup and delivery operations."

In addition, the R260F and the R250F are compliant with California Air Resources Board requirements, he notes.
