Nokian Tyres plc has added size 600/40-22.5 to the Ground Kare lineup for excavators.
It's the recommended size for smaller wheeled excavators in the range of 9 to 15-tons, which can work in tight worksites, such as near homes and in yards.
“Compact and agile wheeled excavators in the 9–15-ton range are popular in urban contracting,” says Kimmo Kekki, product manager for Nokian. “Many modern excavators feature four-wheel steering, which further improves their dexterity in tight spaces. By making Nokian Tyres' Ground Kare available for these machines we help contractors to minimize soil damage and at the same time offer them a tire with smooth, comfortable and fuel-efficient road transportation features.”
Nokian says the Ground Kare tire has been used to replace some twin-wheel configurations, which can be prone to stone trapping and downtime at a site.
“The new 600/40-22.5 is a suitable option for machines using 9.00-20 in dual wheel configuration,” says Kekki. “This makes it a drop-in replacement to many modern wheeled excavators.”
The Ground Kare tire is steel fortified and designed to be resistant to puncture damage. Nokian says the tire's wide tread block pattern and large contact patch provide traction, making it a good option for worksites while doing little to no harm to the soil, even in soft soil environments. The non-directional tread pattern features staggered blocks with clear offsets, which provides users a smooth, comfortable ride.
Nokian says the new size is compatible with "even (the) most dexterous modern excavators."
The Ground Kare has been available in the sizes 600/50-22.5, 650/45-22.5 and 710/40-22.5. The tire also is available for backhoe machines in size 620/60B30 and 620/60B34, including aspecial semi-slick version for railroad use in size 620/60B34.
Nokian also produces wheels specially designed for this product range. Nokian says the wheels for excavators are reinforced to provide stability, and they are equipped with a valve protection including plastic plug, to prevent damage to the valve. Wheels are offered in multiple color options.
The new size 600/40-22.5 is available as of now, both as tire and complete wheel.
