Truck tonnage fell 2.4% in June, according to the American Trucking Associations (ATA). Compared to June 2008, tonnage dropped 13.6%, which surpassed May's 11% year-over-year decline.
Don't expect much improvement in the months ahead, says ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello. "While I am hopeful that the worst is behind us. I just don't see anything on the economic horizon that suggests freight tonnage is about to rise significantly," he explains.
