Pirelli & Cie SpA has approved a $36 million investment in its Guanajuato, Mexico, plant in order to boost the facility's annual production capacity to 7.2 million units.
The plant's production is "dedicated to the local market and North America" and manufactures more than 6.6 million tires per year, focusing on "high performance and ultra-high performance tires for premium and prestige cars, as well as electric vehicles," say Pirelli officials.
"Mexico is a strategic area for Pirelli for all of its activities in North and Central America," says Marco Tronchetti Provera, Pirelli's executive chairman and CEO.
Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, governor of the Mexican state of Guanajuato, recently traveled to Milan, Italy, to meet with Pirelli executives.
