2021: A Good Year for Truck Tires in North America

Jan. 5, 2022

To say 2021 was a good year for truck and bus tires in the replacement channel is a bit of an understatement. In market data compiled by Michelin Group, the year-to-date demand was always double-digits ahead of the mark in North America and Central America.

Looking at the figures provided through November 2021, Michelin says the year-to-date demand for replacement truck tires was up 21% compared to the prior year in North and Central America.

And that’s not even the highest number of the year. The peak came in June, admittedly when prior-year comparisons were low, but the replacement demand at that point was 35% above the previous year.

Original equipment TBR market figures are positive too, but they showed more movement throughout the year. OE demand in North America and Central America in the first two months of 2021 was slightly off the mark compared to the previous year.

Here’s a look at Michelin’s glimpse of the international TBR market, year-to-date, through November 2021.
