Five students are beneficiaries of the 2012 G.F. “Sam” and Ethel V. Bauer/Bauer Built Inc. Scholarship Award. They were awarded $1,000 each.
The students are:
1. Ellie Brantner, Durand High School, Durand, Wis.
2. Tori Harris, Fairmont Jr./Sr. High School in Fairmont, Minn.
3. Allison Milligan, West Burlington Jr./Sr. High School in West Burlington, Iowa.
4. Jessica Olson, Algona High School in Algona, Iowa.
5. Ryan Seffinga, Durand High School.
To be eligible, applicants must be either 1) a Bauer Built employee, or 2) a Bauer Built employee's son, daughter, stepson, stepdaughter or grandchild who is graduating from high school and enrolled in a post-secondary course of instruction.
Applicants must submit hand-written essays on the field of study being pursued, along with their career goals, two letters of recommendation, and verification of grade-point average with their applications. Typically, six scholarships are awarded annually by Bauer Built.
The Durand-based tire dealer introduced the program in 1994 in commemoration of its 50th anniversary, and to honor its founders.Since 1994, the scholarship Bauer Built has awarded over $70,000 in scholarships.
Bauer Built has 29 tire centers, 11 wholesale distribution centers and seven Michelin Retread Technology plants servicing the Midwest. Bauer Built President Jerry Bauer was Modern Tire Dealer's 1994 Tire Dealer of the Year.
